Cost of Hair Transplantation

What is the price of a hair transplant? We get inquiries concerning hair transplant costs on a regular basis. The price of hair transplant surgery is determined by a few different factors. Since every patient’s hair transplant procedure is unique, the cost of the procedure will likewise differ for each individual.

The Cost Is Affected By The Amount Of Grafts

The number of grafts needed to achieve a patient’s hair restoration goals is one factor influencing the cost of hair transplant surgery. For instance, a patient requiring 2,000 grafts would typically pay less than a patient needing 3,000 grafts. Surgeries requiring a greater number of grafts typically take longer than those with fewer grafts. Consequently, the price of the surgery is directly affected by the resources allocated to the larger procedure. However, with larger surgeries, economies of scale can come into play, reducing the overall average cost per graft. The hair transplant cost calculator for both FUT and FUE surgery types provides examples of this.

Expense Per Graft

The cost of hair transplant surgery is often determined by the cost per graft. A graft, sometimes called a follicular unit, is a naturally occurring cluster or clump of one to four hairs. These follicular units are extracted one at a time, directly from the scalp, during FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplant surgery, using a specialised tool. In contrast, FUT (strip surgery) entails the removal of a hair-containing tissue strip, after which each individual follicular unit is extracted from the tissue or donor strip.

Due to the painstaking and time-consuming nature of extracting each graft individually, FUE hair transplant surgery is typically more expensive.

How Do You Calculate The Necessary Graft Amounts?

The number of grafts required for a hair transplant is determined by several factors, including the size of the area needing coverage and the texture of the patient’s hair. Patients with finer hair often need more grafts to achieve the same coverage as those with coarser hair, resulting in higher costs for individuals with finer hair.

Hair Transplant Cost and Coverage
Once we estimate the number of grafts needed for adequate coverage, we assess the donor area (the part of the head where healthy hair is harvested) to ensure sufficient grafts are available. We consider the laxity of the patient’s skin in the donor area and the required length and width of the strip. While in-person assessments provide the most accurate measurements, our experience with thousands of online consultations allows us to offer fairly accurate assessments remotely. Sometimes, an in-person evaluation reveals that more grafts can be harvested than initially estimated online.
